Karen Campbell, M.A.

REGISTERED CLINICAL COUNSELLOR #10964

New to our Campbell & Fairweather team this July, Karen Campbell joins us with extensive counselling experience in the school system, in previous private practice, and as current NFPA 1001 Level 2 volunteer firefighter and Emergency Medical Assistant with Dashwood Fire Department.

Through Karen’s firefighter lens and training through First Responder Health, Karen is no stranger to the effects of trauma and occupational hazards. Since graduating in 2012 with a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University, Karen has connected with hundreds of people always beginning from where they are at.

Karen’s lighthearted approach opens the door for clients to explore vulnerabilities. When clients see patterns that no longer serve them, new patterns are forged for personal agency and greater connection.

Karen clearly sees the correlation between how clients navigate the storms of life and their overall wellness and relationships. This is where Karen’s belief in the power of Emotionally Focused Therapy for individuals and couples comes in — how EFT stabilizes, builds strong connection and clear communication.

Karen has helped clients navigate trauma, grief and loss, relationship and family issues, mental health and social emotional issues, addictions, work, school and personal challenges. With urban and rural roots,Karen is highly aware of risk behaviour and vulnerability in all communities. Our day to day reality can be challenging enough, and increasingly there is the added layer of navigating safely online.

When working with children and youth, Karen often accesses age appropriate CBT, DBT and Play Therapy strategies and tools. She often looks to sage advice from POPARD for neurodivergent challenges. Karen has been vetted by organizations such as ICBC and the First Nations Health Authority.

It is always an honour for Karen to get to know clients of all ages and to hold hope for thriving mental, emotional, spiritual and physical health. Karen is thankful daily for the path of her life, her family and friends, her ancestors and where they came from, the Cree and Lakota land where she is from, and Coast Salish Territories where she works and resides. Karen believes our heart beat is a perfect metaphor for natural expansion and contraction we experience in life. All of our experiences have meaning and purpose.
